How We Chose This Subject:
In 4th grade we researched the American Revolution and thought it was an interesting subject. We really wanted to know how this huge war was started. We saw that the Boston Massacre was the first battle in the American Revolution. We started researching more on the Boston Massacre and thought that it would fit the NHD theme very well, so we decided to use it as our topic.
How We Conducted Our Research:
Our group started by doing individual research on the project (before the fight, the fight, and after the fight). One way we compared our notes was at school. We met at lunch and chose the facts we wanted and the facts we could use without. The other way we compared our notes was by emailing. We found emailing a big factor in our project because what we couldn’t do at lunch we would just send in email. Our group has had 3 meetings, one at the library and 2 at someone’s house. At these meetings we used computers/books to conduct more research and use the rest of the time to compare the notes we had just collected.
How We Created and Developed Our Exhibit:
First our group decided to do a website. Then we put ideas on paper of what we wanted our website to look like. The scene we ended up choosing was old and rusty looking like it came from the past. We chose that scene because the Boston Massacre occurred a long time ago. While our group was conducting research we inserted in information and pictures that we could use to see what the outcome would look like. When we were all done with the notes and research we looked over them one more time. The information we thought was the most important we put into the website.
How Our Project Relates To the Theme:
We chose the Boston Massacre because it relates to the NHD topic (Revolution, Reaction, and Reform) very well. Everyone thought the Boston Massacre was just a little fight that occurred on a normal Massachusetts street, but the truth is the reaction of the Boston Massacre was so extreme it actually started the American Revolution. So, you could say that the Boston Massacre was the first battle in the American Revolution.
